White smart and chicks

Kaiatea Hens began when Steve and Alison bought six hens for their lifestyle block. But, within a few years, it morphed into a chicken rescue centre and the bird population grew to around 40 chickens. Initially, we bred new birds, but now we rescue birds from the Scow Landing rest area at Kiripaka and either keep them or take them to the SPCA for rehoming.

With 40 birds, we have many eggs, which are for sale. The income offsets the cost of rescuing birds. You are welcome to drop in and purchase a dozen eggs at any time. If you can, bring an empty egg carton with you, to swap for the one we supply with the eggs.
